Assault Charge Lands Inmate 5-Year Sentence
Erick Roman, a 38-year-old inmate at the United States Penitentiary at Marion, Illinois, has been sentenced to an additional 5 years in prison for assaulting three correctional officers on three separate occasions.
According to court records, Roman committed the assaults on August 20, 2014, September 13, 2014, and September 28, 2014, while serving a 60-year federal sentence imposed in the District of Maryland for Conspiracy to Participate in a Racketeering Enterprise.
The sentencing hearing was held immediately following Roman’s guilty plea, in which he was found guilty of assaulting the correctional officers. In addition to the 5-year sentence, Roman was ordered to pay $383 in restitution to the victims of his assaults and $300 in special assessments to the United States.
A three-year term of supervised release was also imposed, following Roman’s incarceration. He is currently being held in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Assistant United States Attorney James M. Cutchin prosecuted the case.
Roman’s sentence was announced by Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.
The United States Penitentiary at Marion, Illinois, is a maximum-security facility that houses some of the most violent and high-risk inmates in the federal prison system.
