Rosebud Man Convicted of Transporting Stolen Pickup Truck

Alec Arapahoe, a 20-year-old Rosebud man, was recently sentenced for his role in transporting a stolen pickup truck across state lines.

According to court records, Arapahoe stole a pickup truck in Colorado on July 3, 2011. He then drove the vehicle from Colorado to South Dakota and onto the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation.

Arapahoe was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 22, 2011 and pled guilty to the charge on April 2, 2013. U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced the sentencing, which took place on June 24, 2013.

U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange handed down a nine-month prison sentence, followed by 18 months of supervised release. Arapahoe was also ordered to pay $6,419.48 in restitution and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The investigation into the incident was conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Maher prosecuted the case.

Arapahoe was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals, bringing an end to a lengthy and complex case. The transport of stolen vehicles is a serious crime that can have far-reaching consequences for victims and communities alike.
