One and a Half Years in Prison for Involuntary Manslaughter Convict
A 36-year-old Navajo man has been sentenced to one year and six months in prison for his role in a fatal altercation in Indian Country.
Blaine Morgan, of Crownpoint, New Mexico, pleaded guilty on May 25, 2022, to the charge of involuntary manslaughter, stemming from a March 29, 2020, incident in Church Rock, New Mexico.
According to court documents, Morgan and John Doe, who has not been named, were at a gathering when a dispute escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, Morgan stabbed John Doe, who later died from his injuries.
The FBI’s Gallup Resident Agency, working in conjunction with the Navajo Nation Police Department, investigated the case, with the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico prosecuting the case.
Morgan will serve his one year and six months sentence, followed by three years of supervised release upon his release from prison.
The sentence serves as a reminder of the severity of violent crime in Indian Country and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.
