Iowa Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Child Porn Possession
Scott Allen Tomlinson, 49, a resident of Ida Grove, Iowa, has been handed a harsh sentence for his role in a disturbing case of child pornography. On April 18, 2024, Tomlinson was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his crime.
The evidence against Tomlinson was damning. Between September 1, 2021, and February 23, 2022, he possessed and accessed child pornography on his cellular phone, using a cloud-based storage system. Law enforcement recovered dozens of images, including material that portrayed sadistic and masochistic conduct.
A pattern of activity involving the sexual abuse or exploitation of a minor was also established during the sentencing hearing. Tomlinson’s crimes have serious consequences, and he will have to face the full extent of the law.
Tomlinson’s sentence was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand in Sioux City. He was sentenced to 120 months’ imprisonment and ordered to pay $2,600 in fines and assessments. He must also serve a 5-year term of supervised release after completing his prison term.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children.
The case was investigated by the State of Iowa Department of Public Safety and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kraig R. Hamit. Tomlinson is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
