Ira Sims, Fentanyl Distribution, Pennsylvania 2020

A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to 100 months’ imprisonment for his role in a fentanyl distribution conspiracy based in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Ira Sims, age 24, of Philadelphia, previously pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute fentanyl from August 2019 to August 2020 in Williamsport.

At the sentencing, Chief U.S. District Court Judge Matthew W. Brann highlighted the devastating impact of fentanyl on the community and the fact that Sims was being supervised for a prior drug-trafficking conviction at the time of his involvement in the conspiracy.

Sims’ sentencing is part of an ongoing effort by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to combat the nationwide epidemic of heroin and fentanyl distribution.

Other co-defendants in the case have also been sentenced, including Braheem Lewis, who received 48 months’ imprisonment, Kevin Bryant, who received 15 months’ imprisonment, Ethan Bailey, who received 24 months’ imprisonment, Basil Arties, who received 18 months’ imprisonment, Damion Bethea, who received 15 months’ imprisonment, and Kenyon Bonaparte, who received 24 months’ imprisonment.

The charges against Sims and his co-defendants stem from an investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police, the Williamsport Bureau of Police, the Lycoming County Narcotics Enforcement Unit, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

This case is part of an extensive investigation by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), a joint federal, state, and local cooperative approach to combat drug trafficking.
