Irondequoit Man Sentenced for Cyberstalking
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Theodore Loria, a 53-year-old Irondequoit man, has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for cyberstalking.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, between June 2017 and August 2019, Loria stalked an individual, causing substantial emotional distress. The defendant sent the Victim threatening text messages via cellular telephone in 2017. He also sent a series of text messages, pretending to be a member of a local police department, stating that the Victim was an ‘enemy’ of law enforcement and that he knew where all of Victim’s family members lived. Loria texted the Victim the correct addresses of the Victim’s family members.
In December 2018, the defendant texted the Victim anonymously stating he knew where the Victim lived and everything about the Victim’s minor child, even providing details about the child’s school location, appearance, and the location of the child’s bedroom in the home. Defendant also conducted physical surveillance of the Victim’s residence and business and followed the Victim in his vehicle.
U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford sentenced Loria to serve 24 months in federal prison, followed by six months of home confinement. The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Stephen Belongia, and the Rochester Police Department, under the direction of Chief Cynthia Herriott-Sullivan.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa M. Marangola, who handled the case, stated that the defendant’s actions caused significant emotional distress to the Victim.
Loria’s sentence comes as a result of his conviction for cyberstalking. The case serves as a reminder of the severity of cyberstalking and the importance of taking these crimes seriously.
