BILLINGS, Montana – In a disturbing case of domestic violence, a 26-year-old Butte man has admitted to strangling a woman on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation.

According to the court documents, in July 2020, the victim visited Isaiah Benjamin Antelope’s house in the Lame Deer area of the reservation for help fixing a flat tire. However, things took a deadly turn when the two got into an argument, and Antelope allegedly strangled the victim with his hands.

The shocking incident is not the first time Antelope had used physical force against the victim. Court documents revealed that Antelope had previously strangled the victim on other occasions, leaving her unconscious or feeling like she was going to pass out.

Isaiah Benjamin Antelope pleaded guilty to the charges of strangulation, a crime that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

The sentencing hearing is set for August 17, where U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters will determine the final sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other sentencing factors.

Antelope is currently being held in detention pending the sentencing hearing. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the FBI.

The Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation has been plagued by reports of domestic violence and abuse. This case highlights the need for increased awareness and action to prevent such crimes.
