Mobile Man Sentenced for Fentanyl Trafficking
In a blow to the opioid epidemic plaguing Alabama, Isaiah Lorenzo Bess, 28, was sentenced to 33 months in prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking ring.
According to court documents, Bess conspired with others to distribute fentanyl pills throughout the Mobile area, beginning in or around July 2023 and continuing to or about December 8, 2023. The indictment charged Bess with Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl.
Bess pleaded guilty to the charge, and on April 29, 2025, United States District Court Judge William H. Steele handed down the sentence. In addition to the 33 months in prison, Bess will also serve a 5-year term of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica S. Terrill prosecuting on behalf of the United States.
The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama, Sean P. Costello, announced the sentencing. This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against opioid trafficking in Alabama.
Bess’s sentencing brings an end to a lengthy investigation into fentanyl trafficking in Mobile. The community can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that those responsible for bringing harm to their streets will face justice.
