JACKSON, MS – Wilbert Lindsay Ransom, 45, walked into a Jackson courtroom today and admitted to robbing a Trustmark National Bank. The plea brings a potential end to the case, but doesn’t erase the fear he instilled in bank tellers and customers on Woodrow Wilson Avenue.
According to federal prosecutors, Ransom entered the Trustmark National Bank branch on May 27, 2025, and handed a teller a demand note. It wasn’t a polite request. Security footage, now a key piece of evidence, clearly shows Ransom reaching into his pocket – not for a wallet – but for a folding knife. A clear threat, and a clear intent to get what he wanted. The details, laid bare in court documents, paint a picture of a brazen daylight robbery.
Ransom didn’t stick around to negotiate. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, he fled the scene. But his freedom was short-lived. Law enforcement caught up with him in Brandon the very same day. The swift arrest was a joint effort between the FBI and local police, a testament to coordinated law enforcement action.
Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon of the Southern District of Mississippi and FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Eikhoff announced the guilty plea. While a conviction is a step forward, the sentencing is what truly matters. Ransom is scheduled to appear before a federal district court judge on January 9, 2026, where he could face up to 20 years behind bars. The final sentence will be determined based on federal guidelines and other relevant factors.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Samuel Goff is leading the prosecution. The investigation was spearheaded by the Jackson Field Office of the FBI, with crucial assistance from the Capitol Police Department and the Brandon Police Department. This wasn’t a solo operation; it was a concerted effort to hold a criminal accountable.
This case is also tied into Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at dismantling cartels, eliminating transnational criminal organizations, and combating violent crime. It’s a broad-stroke program, using resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN). Whether this larger operation will truly make a difference remains to be seen, but for the victims of this robbery, today’s plea offers a measure of closure.
