Baltimore, Maryland – In a shocking display of online recklessness, Jackson Fleming, a 23-year-old man from Chesterton, Indiana, has been arrested and charged with sending a threatening message to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

The incident occurred on September 11, 2025, when Fleming allegedly sent a threatening message through a social media application connected to the Naval Academy. The threat was reportedly sent to the academy, causing widespread concern among students, faculty, and staff.

According to officials, a magistrate judge approved a complaint charging Fleming with one count of transmitting a threat in interstate communication in the Northern District of Indiana. Authorities arrested Fleming on September 12, in Indiana, and he made his initial appearance in the Northern District of Indiana on September 15.

The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) – Baltimore Field Office, with assistance from the FBI – Indianapolis Field Office, the Porter County Sheriff’s Office, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and the United States Naval Academy. U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes commended the FBI for its work in the investigation, praising their dedication to keeping the community safe.

If formally charged, Fleming faces a maximum of five years in federal prison. Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis Sohn is prosecuting the case, with valuable assistance provided by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert I. Goldaris.
