Jackson, Miss. – Maurice King, 29, of Jackson, has been sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis today.
King’s sentencing, which took place on January 14, 2016, was overseen by Senior U.S. District Judge David C. Bramlette III.
The indictment of Maurice King was a result of the Jackson Violent Crime Initiative, a joint effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies working to reduce violent crime in the city of Jackson and remove violent offenders from the streets.
The Jackson Violent Crime Initiative partners include the Jackson Police Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), U.S. Marshals Service, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and U.S. Secret Service.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with assistance from the Jackson Police Department and the Ridgeland Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Chalk prosecuted the case.
King’s sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release, further emphasizing the federal government’s commitment to keeping the streets of Jackson and surrounding communities safe.
This case is a reminder that law enforcement agencies will continue to work together to combat violent crime in the city of Jackson and remove violent offenders from the streets.
