Las Vegas Gang Member Sentenced to Life in Prison for Racketeering, Murder, and Other Crimes

A member of the notorious Playboy Bloods street gang has been sentenced to life in prison for a string of crimes, including the retaliation murder of a man in 2004 and the armed robbery of a Henderson casino in 2002.

Jacorey Taylor, 30, also known as ‘Mo-B,’ was convicted by a jury in May 2013 of engaging in a racketeering (RICO) conspiracy, committing violent crimes in aid of racketeering activity, using a firearm during a crime of violence, participating in a drug conspiracy, and possessing crack cocaine with the intent to distribute.

The convictions stem from a RICO indictment filed in 2008, which charged Taylor and nine other members of the Playboy Bloods with various crimes. Eight of the defendants have already been convicted and sentenced, with Taylor being the ninth to be sentenced.

Taylor’s sentencing hearing was held on May 2013, where he was sentenced to life in prison. His co-defendants, Reginald Dunlap and Steven Booth, pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy charges and were each sentenced to 20 years in prison in April 2013.

The crimes for which Taylor was convicted include the murder of Billy Ray Thomas, who was shot multiple times in the back on the morning of November 1, 2004, as he worked on a car in the parking lot of the Pecos Terrace Apartments. According to evidence presented at trial, Taylor and other members of the Playboy Bloods drove through known Crip neighborhoods in search of rivals to retaliate against for the murder of Quaza Burns, a leader of the Playboy Bloods. Thomas had no gang affiliation.

In addition to the murder, Taylor was also convicted of participating in the armed robbery of the Klondike Casino in Henderson on March 21, 2002. He and another man entered the casino, forced their way behind the cage, and robbed the casino of over $7,000 in currency.

The Bloods are a nationally known criminal street gang that engages in drug trafficking and acts of violence. The Playboy Bloods is a local ‘set’ or affiliate of the Bloods, with local control and operation within the Las Vegas metropolitan area.
