KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jaime Flores-Ortega, a 31-year-old Mexican national, has been handed a 26-month prison sentence for illegal reentry into the United States following his second deportation.
Flores-Ortega pleaded guilty to unlawful reentry after being deported for an aggravated felony, and he faced Senior U.S. District Judge Howard Sachs for sentencing on August 5, 2025.
The court documents reveal that on October 26, 2024, Flores-Ortega was apprehended by Kansas City police for leaving the scene of an accident. His alien status and prior deportations were soon uncovered, revealing a history of transgression in the Western District of Missouri. In October 2016, he had been convicted for being an alien in possession of a firearm, leading to his first deportation in 2017.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Rudolph R. Rhodes IV was responsible for the prosecution of this case, while U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Chicago Field Office, Kansas City Sub-Office, conducted the investigation.
This conviction is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and safeguarding communities from violent crime. The operation leverages resources from various task forces and programs within the Department of Justice to achieve these goals.
