Jaimian Sims, Sex Trafficking of a Minor, Texas 2024

HOUSTON — Jaimian Sims, 27, of Houston, was convicted by a federal jury Friday on charges of sex trafficking of a minor and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking. The verdict closes a five-day trial that exposed a sordid network of coercion, fear, and exploitation tied to the local rap scene and a notorious Northwest Houston compound known as ‘The Mansion.’

Prosecutors say Sims, a member of The Sauce Factory, directed Tabbetha Mangis, 22, of La Grange, and Gary Shawn Haynes Jr., 23, of Houston, to recruit and exploit women for prostitution — including a 17-year-old girl pulled from her home and driven to the sprawling 5,000-square-foot residence. There, the minor was prepared for commercial sex, including being issued a fake ID to rent a room at the Express Inn, where she was advertised online using photos taken by an adult victim under Sims’ orders.

The adult victim testified she feared Sims, who regularly carried a firearm and had physically assaulted other women working for him. She described a climate of terror, where defiance meant violence and compliance was enforced through intimidation. The minor victim later told investigators she wanted to be ‘arrested’ — not to face punishment, but to escape her traffickers, fearing they’d believe she was cooperating with law enforcement.

Government expert testimony laid bare the language and structure of what insiders call ‘the game’ — a subculture of pimping and exploitation embedded in certain music and street circles. Jurors heard definitions of coded terms used by traffickers and victims alike, helping them interpret evidence, including three rap videos featuring Sims that referenced the very tactics he was accused of using.

The defense argued the women involved acted willingly, with no force, fraud, or coercion. They claimed the relationships were consensual and commercial. But the jury rejected that narrative in less than eight hours of deliberation, delivering a damning verdict on both counts. Mangis and Haynes have already pleaded guilty and await sentencing.

Sims will be sentenced on August 14, 2019, by U.S. District Judge David Hittner. He faces a minimum of 10 years and up to life in federal prison, plus a $250,000 fine. He remains in custody. The case was investigated by the Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 4, FBI, and Harris County District Attorney’s Office as part of the Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance (HTRA), a Houston-based task force recognized nationally for its anti-trafficking efforts. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sherri Zack and Kimberly Leo prosecuted the case.
