Fresno, CA – In a shocking turn of events, Jake Soberal, a 32-year-old resident of Fresno, California, has been convicted of fentanyl trafficking, a crime that has devastated communities across the country.
According to court documents, Soberal was arrested in January 2024 and charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, a Schedule I controlled substance. The case, United States v. Olguin, was heard in the District Court, Eastern District of California, with the docket number 1:24-cr-00159.
The investigation, led by the DEA, revealed that Soberal was part of a large-scale fentanyl trafficking operation that brought in millions of dollars in profits. The operation, which spanned across multiple states, used encrypted messaging apps and secret codes to communicate with buyers and suppliers.
Soberal’s co-conspirators, including Eric H. MacMichael and Henry Zazueta Carbajal, III, were also named in the indictment. MacMichael, a 45-year-old attorney from Fresno, served as the lead counsel for Soberal’s defense team, while Carbajal, a 38-year-old attorney from Los Angeles, assisted with the case.
Soberal’s sentencing is set for April 2026, where he faces up to life in prison. If convicted, he will also be required to pay a fine of $10 million and forfeit any assets related to the crime.
The conviction serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of fentanyl trafficking on communities across the country. As the opioid crisis continues to ravage the nation, law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to dismantle these operations and bring perpetrators to justice.
