Cole County Jail Inmate Sentenced for Cocaine Possession

A 32-year-old man from Jefferson City, Mo., has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison without parole for possessing cocaine while incarcerated in the Cole County Jail.

Waun Ramon Ivory, 32, pleaded guilty to possessing contraband in prison on Oct. 26, 2023. Ivory admitted to possessing cocaine while in the Cole County Jail. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Roseann A. Ketchmark.

This latest conviction stems from an incident on March 6, 2023, when Ivory was caught in possession of cocaine while in the Cole County Jail. Investigators also found a razor, unsheathed from its safety case, on Ivory’s person. While this case has been pending, Ivory was also caught with a weapon made from a toothbrush, as well as another razor.

Ivory’s history of run-ins with the law includes a 2017 federal conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm. In that case, a family member reported Ivory carrying a firearm and threatening to harm another person. Ivory was sentenced to five years in prison and released to supervision on June 7, 2022. However, he failed to comply with the conditions of his supervision, resulting in a warrant being issued for his arrest.

Ivory’s supervised release was revoked and he was subsequently sentenced to two years in prison. While in the Cole County Jail pending the supervised release revocation, Ivory’s latest cocaine possession charge was made.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren E. Kummerer, with the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Cole County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department handling the investigation.

The guilty plea and subsequent sentence bring an end to a long and troubled history of run-ins with the law for Ivory. As he begins his eight-year sentence, Ivory will have to confront the consequences of his actions and work towards rehabilitation behind bars.
