A New York woman has been charged with distributing large quantities of cocaine at motels in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, authorities announced yesterday.
Jalani Kornegay, 33, of New York, New York, was charged with distributing cocaine in Luzerne County on May 18, 2013, according to a criminal information filed in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police, which identified Kornegay as a key player in a network of individuals selling cocaine at various motels in Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties.
Kornegay, who faces up to 40 years’ imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine, is currently at large. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding her whereabouts to contact the FBI or local law enforcement.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus. An indictment or information is merely an allegation, and all persons charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The maximum penalty under the federal statute for the offense in question is 40 years’ imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
