A Beaver County man has been charged with violating federal firearms laws, according to a recent indictment.
Jamal M. Brooks, 25, of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, was named in a one-count indictment returned on September 19, 2017.
According to the indictment, Brooks, a convicted felon, unlawfully possessed three firearms and ammunition on or about August 22, 2017.
Federal law prohibits an individual with a felony conviction from possessing a firearm or ammunition, and Brooks’ actions led to a charge of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
The charge carries a maximum total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history of the defendant.
The case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort between federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and communities to prevent, deter and prosecute gun crime.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Penn Hills Police Department conducted the investigation leading to the Indictment in this case.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
