Jamar Sims, 27, of South Bend, Indiana, is headed to federal prison for 70 months after admitting to selling methamphetamine to an undercover informant in two separate deals. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Chief Judge Jon E. DeGuilio, marks the end of a DEA-led probe that tracked Sims’ movements from a Bowman Street residence to off-site drug transactions.
Sims pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of methamphetamine, a charge that carries steep penalties under federal law. The plea deal, prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joel Gabrielse, also includes three years of supervised release following his prison term. Federal authorities made it clear: dealing in meth won’t be tolerated on their watch.
Court documents lay out a clear pattern of behavior. In November 2018, Sims sold meth to a cooperating individual working under police direction. He did it again in March 2019—same buyer, same method. Surveillance logs show him traveling from the Bowman Street location each time, confirming investigators’ suspicions of an active distribution operation.
Even more damning? Sims told the cooperator he had access to a variety of drugs, suggesting his criminal enterprise extended beyond just meth. That statement, captured in official reports, helped prosecutors build a stronger case and push for a sentence above the minimum.
The Drug Enforcement Administration led the investigation, using classic undercover tactics to gather evidence. Their work culminated in charges that left little room for negotiation. With video, testimony, and a confession on file, Sims’ fate was sealed long before the judge’s gavel fell.
U.S. Attorney Thomas L. Kirsch II reaffirmed the federal commitment to dismantling drug networks in northern Indiana. “This sentence sends a message,” he said. “We’re watching. We’re moving fast. And we’re putting traffickers behind bars.” Jamar Sims is now part of that growing tally.
