James Dewayne Munkus, Bank Robberies, Arizona 2018

A 55-year-old man from St. David, Arizona, has been sentenced to 108 months in prison for his role in two bank robberies in 2017.

According to court records, James Dewayne Munkus robbed a Pima Federal Credit Union on January 9, 2017, using a fake bomb to get away with over $3,000. Five days later, Munkus used a handgun to rob an eastside branch of US Bank, taking over $64,000.

The investigation into the robberies was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tucson Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Matthew C. Cassell, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona.

Munkus was apprehended in Gadsden, Alabama, on March 21, 2017, after a lengthy investigation.

As part of his sentence, Munkus will serve 108 months in prison for the two counts of bank robbery. The sentence was handed down by U.S. Chief District Judge Raner C. Collins.
