James Dockins, Fentanyl Trafficking, Indiana 2024

A South Bend man has been sentenced to 128 months in prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation.

According to court documents, James Dockins, 37, was found to be in possession of over 400 grams of fentanyl pills in February 2024. The pills were stored in a cabinet in his home, alongside other packaged fentanyl pills that were ready for distribution.

When law enforcement attempted to stop Dockins, he fled the scene in his car, crashing into a fire hydrant before surrendering. His attempt to evade capture has been deemed reckless and irresponsible.

The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service, including the USPIS Forensic Laboratory, with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration, the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, the Mishawaka Police Department, the St. Joseph County Police Department, and the Indiana State Police.

Assistant United States Attorney Lydia T. Lucius prosecuted the case, bringing Dockins to justice for his role in the fentanyl trafficking operation.

The sentencing of Dockins serves as a warning to those involved in fentanyl trafficking that the consequences of their actions will be severe.
