West Virginia Man Faces Decades in Prison for Methamphetamine Charge

A 41-year-old man from Stonewood, West Virginia, has pleaded guilty to a serious crime that could land him behind bars for decades. James Leonard Bailey, III, has admitted to conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Bailey was found in possession of a substantial amount of the highly addictive and potent substance. Law enforcement officials discovered 32 grams of methamphetamine and a firearm in Harrison County, where Bailey resides.

As a result of his guilty plea, Bailey is facing a lengthy prison sentence. He could be incarcerated for as little as five years, but the maximum sentence he may receive is 40 years. A federal district court judge will ultimately decide his fate, taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The investigation into Bailey’s activities was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Stonewood Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christie Utt is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided over the proceedings. His decision will have a significant impact on the life of James Leonard Bailey, III, and the community he resides in.
