NEW ROCHELLE, NY – James Pavlounis, owner of Select Parking Systems, will spend the next 37 months behind bars after admitting to a brazen, 12-year hustle. The feds hit Pavlounis with a stiff sentence today for collecting over $646,000 in Social Security disability benefits he didn’t deserve and stiffing the IRS out of $248,810 in taxes.
According to court papers, Pavlounis claimed he was too disabled to work while simultaneously raking in cash from his valet parking businesses. He allegedly lied to the Social Security Administration from January 2013 to March 2025, pocketing benefits he wasn’t entitled to. But that wasn’t enough. Between 2018 and 2022, Pavlounis hid income from Select Parking Systems, making it look like the business was losing money to avoid paying corporate income taxes.
The scheme included using a family member as a front owner for SPS and funneling business profits for personal use. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton called it a “theft” of vital funds. “Programs like Social Security depend on honesty,” Clayton said in a statement. Judge Philip M. Halpern handed down the sentence following Pavlounis’s guilty plea last September.
