A Boone, Iowa man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy and possession of a firearm in furtherance of the crime. James Edward Poole, 34, received the prison term after pleading guilty to one count of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

According to court documents, Poole admitted his involvement in a conspiracy that distributed more than 1000 grams of mixed methamphetamine, which contained at least 150 grams of actual methamphetamine, from 2012 through January 2013. On January 8, 2013, officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle occupied by Poole and his wife, Shannon Poole, and seized over 134 grams of actual methamphetamine, $377.74 in U.S. Currency, and a loaded handgun, a Kel-Tec .380.

Poole admitted that he had just obtained the methamphetamine from his source near Webster City, Iowa, and planned to distribute it to other individuals. He was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett to 126 months’ imprisonment, a special assessment of $200, and a 5-year term of supervised release after the prison term.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Webster City Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
