James Trotter Charged with Methamphetamine Offenses in Illinois

A Jacksonville man has been charged with serious methamphetamine offenses in Illinois. James Trotter, 27, was arrested yesterday and made his initial appearance in federal court in Springfield today.

According to the indictment, Trotter conspired with others to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine from February 7, 2013, to May 31, 2013. He is also charged with two counts of possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, one count of possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture meth, and three counts of using or maintaining a building to manufacture meth.

The indictment alleges that Trotter was involved in the manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine at three different locations in Jacksonville: 760 W. Douglas Ave., 1033 E. Morton Ave., Lot 26, and 102 S. Marnico Lane.

If convicted, Trotter faces serious penalties, including five to 40 years in prison for conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine. He also faces up to 20 years in prison for each of the other offenses.

The investigation into Trotter’s activities was conducted by the Illinois State Police, the Jacksonville Police Department, and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryan D. Freres in cooperation with the office of Morgan County State’s Attorney Robert V. Bonjean III.

Trotter is currently being held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending his trial, which is scheduled to begin on October 1, 2013, before U.S. District Judge Sue E. Myerscough.

Members of the public are reminded that an indictment is merely an accusation, and Trotter is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
