Jamey Wayne Charon Jr., Methamphetamine Trafficking, Manhattan NY, …

BOZEMAN, MT – Jamey Wayne Charon, Jr., 26, of Manhattan, Montana, will spend the next seven years in a federal prison cell after pleading guilty to trafficking methamphetamine and possessing a firearm despite a prior felony record. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen, reflects the seriousness of Charon’s repeat offenses and the ongoing struggle against drug distribution in the state.

The bust originated with the Missouri River Drug Task Force, who began investigating Charon’s activities in March of 2022. Undercover agents managed to purchase methamphetamine from Charon on two separate occasions, establishing a clear pattern of illegal drug sales. The feds didn’t stop there.

A subsequent search of Charon’s vehicle, conducted after a separate arrest, revealed a significant stash of meth neatly packaged in jeweler bags – enough to indicate this wasn’t a casual exchange. Charon later admitted to selling the drug roughly twice a week since February 2022, painting a picture of a consistent, calculated operation. He wasn’t just holding, he was moving.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer S. Clark, prosecuting the case, successfully argued that Charon’s criminal history and the presence of a firearm heightened the danger he posed to the community. The illegal gun possession charge stemmed from Charon being a prohibited person, ineligible to own firearms due to his previous convictions. The feds clearly intended to make an example of him.

Beyond the seven-year prison sentence, Charon will face four years of supervised release upon completion of his term. This means he’ll be monitored by parole officers, subject to drug testing, and restricted in his movements – a constant reminder of his past mistakes. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence nationwide.

The Missouri River Drug Task Force worked in conjunction with the FBI, Bozeman Police Department, and the Park County Sheriff’s Office to build the case against Charon. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of interagency cooperation in tackling complex criminal enterprises. The Grimy Times will continue to track this case and report on the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in Montana.
