St. Croix Man Indicted After Threatening to Murder Federal Agents
St. Croix, VI – In a disturbing display of disrespect for law enforcement officials, a federal grand jury has indicted a local man for making heinous threats of violence against federal and local agents.
According to court documents, on August 31, 2024, Jamoi Weekes, 30, of St. Croix, attempted to board a flight at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix. Weekes was referred to Customs and Border Protection for a secondary inspection before boarding his flight. However, things took a dark turn when Weekes became extremely irate and combative, and began threatening to murder and retaliate against the officers if he ever saw them again.
The threats allegedly continued as Weekes exited the airport, where he encountered two Virgin Islands Port Authority officers. Rather than leave the airport, Weekes followed two Customs and Border Protection officers from the airport terminal to the parking lot and again threatened to murder the officers.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Evan Rikhye.
United States Attorney Delia L. Smith reminds the public that an indictment is merely a formal charging document, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
Jamoi Weekes has been charged with making threats to assault and murder federal and local law enforcement officers.
Weekes is currently facing the possibility of prison time for his alleged crimes, and it remains to be seen whether he will be convicted and punished accordingly.
In the meantime, the public is reminded to respect the hard work and sacrifice of our law enforcement officials, who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe.
