Jane Doe, Passport Fraud and Theft, Florida 2025

Tampa, Florida – A 69-year-old Bradenton woman has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for her role in a complex scheme involving passport fraud, Social Security fraud, wire fraud, and theft of government funds.

Jane Doe, also known as Rosario Alaniz, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland following her guilty plea in December 2025. The court also ordered Doe to pay restitution in the amount of $184,904.75.

According to court documents, Doe fraudulently obtained a United States passport using a stolen identity. She then used this fraudulent identity to receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits from the Department of Agriculture, as well as benefits from the Social Security Administration (SSA) through disability insurance benefits.

Doe failed to disclose her employment and fraudulently secured payments when either no payment was due or in a greater amount than authorized. As a result, she received government benefits totaling approximately $184,904.75.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), the Social Security Administration – Office of the Inspector General, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Department of Agriculture – Office of Inspector General, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – Office of Inspector General.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ilyssa M. Spergel, with the forfeiture being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Suzanne C. Nebesky. U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe made the announcement following the sentencing.

The brazen scheme highlights the need for continued vigilance in preventing and detecting identity theft and government benefits fraud. The Grimy Times will continue to monitor this case and bring you updates as more information becomes available.
