Tulsa Woman Sentenced to 4 Years Probation, $112,865 Restitution for Theft of Government Funds
Muskogee, Oklahoma – In a shocking turn of events, a 65-year-old woman from Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 4 years of probation and ordered to pay $112,865 in restitution for her role in a massive government funds theft scheme.
The defendant, Janet Carolyn Jones, was found guilty of Theft Of Government Funds, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 641, after a lengthy investigation by the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General.
The charges against Jones arose from an investigation that revealed she had been embezzling money from the Social Security Administration, an agency of the United States, between September 2000 and September 2013. The money was meant for Ora Dell Dixon, a/k/a Ora Dell Trento, who was entitled to receive retirement benefits.
According to court documents, Jones willfully and knowingly stole and converted the money to her own use, knowing she was not entitled to it. The value of the stolen funds exceeded $1,000.
The Honorable Ronald A. White, District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing, which took place on an unknown date. Assistant United States Attorney Chris Wilson represented the United States in the case.
Jones was sentenced to 4 years of probation, a relatively light sentence considering the severity of the crime. The court also ordered her to pay $112,865 in restitution to the Social Security Administration. It is unclear how Jones will pay the restitution, but it is clear that she will have to face the consequences of her actions for the next 4 years.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and the consequences of stealing from the government. The Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General, did an excellent job of investigating the case and bringing Jones to justice.
