Jaquan Jeremiah Wright, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, West Virginia 2020

A 22-year-old New York man has been sentenced to five years in prison for a federal gun crime in West Virginia.

Jaquan Jeremiah Wright of New York was sentenced to 60 months in prison for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Wright was stopped by officers with the Charleston Police Department on July 28, 2020, during a traffic stop. A Polymer80 PFC9, 9mm pistol was found in his vehicle between the console and passenger seat.

At the time of the traffic stop, Wright was subject to a Domestic Violence Protective Order entered in the Jamestown City Court, County of Chautauqua, New York.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston commended the investigative work of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Charleston Police Department, the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT), the U.S. Marshals Service and the West Virginia State Police.

Senior United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr., imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Monica D. Coleman handled the prosecution.

The investigation was part of the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), which was established in 1982 to conduct comprehensive, multilevel attacks on major drug trafficking and money laundering organizations.
