Jaquan Rakim Roberts, Armed Robbery, Virginia 2022

A Richmond man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for committing three armed robberies in 2022.

Jaquan Rakim Roberts, 21, was sentenced on no date provided for the armed robberies that occurred between January and February 2022.

The first armed robbery took place on January 6, 2022 at the Darbytown Mini Mart, located at 1581 Darbytown Road in Richmond. Roberts entered the store wearing a ski-mask and brandished two semiautomatic pistols at the cashier. He demanded money and Black and Mild cigars, and the cashier handed over two boxes of the cigars and approximately $1,800.

About a month later, on February 28, 2022, Roberts committed another armed robbery at the same Darbytown Mini Mart. He wore a ski-mask and demanded money from the same cashier, who gave him approximately $137. However, the cashier included currency affixed with a law enforcement tracker in the money she handed over.

After leaving the Darbytown Mini Mart, Roberts drove to Jack’s Place, located at 1881 Darbytown Road in Richmond, where he brandished two semiautomatic pistols and demanded money from an employee. The employee gave Roberts $40 of his own money.

Law enforcement was able to apprehend Roberts using the tracker included in the currency. They executed search warrants at several residences associated with Roberts and recovered a loaded semiautomatic pistol, clothing, and ski-masks. They also recovered two loaded semiautomatic pistols from the car Roberts drove on February 28, 2022.

Roberts was charged with armed robbery and sentenced to 14 years in prison.

The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Jessica D. Aber, and the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Richmond Field Office, Stanley M. Meador, made the announcement after sentencing by U.S. District Judge David J. Novak.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth R. Simon, Jr. prosecuted the case.
