Ex-Spouse of Service Member Jailed for Christmas Eve Assault
MEMPHIS, TN – In a shocking turn of events, Jared Goodman, 34, has been sentenced to 4½ years in federal prison for domestic violence against his service member spouse.
According to court documents, Goodman met his victim in December 2022, and the couple married in October 2023. However, their relationship turned violent on Christmas Eve 2023, when Goodman assaulted his spouse, causing a lumbar spine fracture.
On February 20, 2026, Chief United States District Judge Sheryl H. Lipman handed down the sentence, ordering Goodman to serve 54 months in prison.
Additionally, Judge Lipman ordered Goodman to serve a five-year period of supervision following his release from custody.
The assault was investigated by the United States Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lynn Crum.
U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant weighed in on the case, stating, “Perpetrators of domestic violence seek to control their victims to perpetuate their violent acts. This victim was particularly brave to come forward and report her abuse.”
Special Agent in Charge Arturo Hernandez of the NCIS Central Field Office also released a statement, emphasizing the importance of collaboration to ensure the safety and security of service members and their families.
