Warning: Graphic Crime Details Ahead
A chilling tale of brutality and violence has come to an end in Gary, Indiana, where a young man has been sentenced to 210 months in prison for his role in a kidnapping plot.
Jaron Johnson, 23, of Gary, Indiana, pleaded guilty to kidnapping, announced United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson. The crime, which dates back to April 14, 2019, left a woman severely beaten and shot in the face and arm.
According to court documents, Johnson and his accomplices forcibly took the woman into a car at gunpoint, blindfolded and duct-taped her, and drove her around Gary. The victim was subjected to physical abuse and threats when she refused to provide information about a witness in Johnson’s brother’s criminal case.
The victim’s ordeal continued as she was dragged from the car and left for dead behind a house. Miraculously, she survived the attack, thanks to the quick response of medical authorities.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Gang Response Investigative Team, assisted by the Gary Police Department, Indiana State Police, and Lake County Prosecutor’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Michael Toth and Thomas Mahoney prosecuted the case.
Jaron Johnson’s sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of violent crime. As part of a broader effort to reduce violent crime, the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, a joint federal, state, and local initiative, focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs.
The PSN Program has proven to be effective in reducing violent crime. This case highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the community in preventing and addressing violent crime.
Johnson’s sentence is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement officials and the justice system in holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
