Jarrett Chappelear, Methamphetamine Distribution, Nebraska 2021

A chilling case of methamphetamine distribution has come to a close in the Heartland. According to court documents, Jarrett Chappelear, a 26-year-old Fremont resident, was at the center of a federal investigation.

Chappelear’s troubles began on October 29, 2021, when the Nebraska State Patrol in Norfolk utilized a confidential informant to purchase 1,245 grams of pure methamphetamine from the defendant. The controlled buy was just the beginning of a chain of events that would land Chappelear behind bars.

Following the purchase, troopers stopped Chappelear driving away from the scene. During a search of his vehicle, authorities found an FNS 9mm handgun with two spare magazines of ammunition. The discovery of the firearm added a new layer of complexity to the case.

On September 15, 2023, Chappelear appeared in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska, to face the music. Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. handed down a sentence of 96 months’ imprisonment for the distribution of methamphetamine and 60 months’ imprisonment for possessing a firearm during a drug transaction. When combined, the two sentences yielded a total of 156 months in prison.

There’s no parole in the federal system, so Chappelear will have to serve every last day of his sentence. After his release from prison, he’ll begin a 4-year term of supervised release. It’s a harsh reminder of the consequences of engaging in illicit activities.

The case was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol, a stalwart advocate for public safety in the region. Their tireless efforts have helped bring Chappelear to justice and ensured that the community is a little bit safer.

The people of Nebraska can rest easier knowing that this individual is off the streets and facing the consequences of his actions. As we continue to navigate the complexities of the modern world, it’s essential that we remain vigilant and support our law enforcement agencies in their mission to protect and serve.
