Jarvis Johnson, Felon in Possession of Firearms, New Mexico 2024

ALBUQUERQUE – A grim day in the annals of Albuquerque’s crime history as Jarvis Johnson, 28, was handed a 70-month sentence for being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. The sentence, which includes three years of supervised release after his prison term, sends a stern message to those who flout gun laws in the state.

Johnson’s downfall began on December 16, 2015, when he was arrested following an investigation into illegal firearm and drug possession. According to charges, Johnson had been caught with firearms and ammunition, as well as methamphetamine, heroin, and marijuana, all of which he was prohibited from possessing due to his prior felony conviction for meth distribution.

The investigation was a joint effort by the Albuquerque office of the FBI and the Las Cruces Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Shana B. Long led the prosecution.

Johnson’s guilty plea, entered on January 20, 2017, confirmed his guilt in selling firearms and ammunition to an undercover agent. The September 16, 2015 event took place in Bernalillo County, N.M., where Johnson reportedly sold three firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition, fully aware of his illegal status as a felon.

For the Albuquerque community, this sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who skirt the law. As Jarvis Johnson faces his time behind bars, local authorities continue their efforts to dismantle criminal operations and keep the streets safe.

This case serves as a testament to the tireless work of law enforcement agencies in New Mexico, as they strive to uphold justice and protect the public from dangerous individuals like Jarvis Johnson.
