Jason Lloyd Schaber, Child Pornography, Idaho 2013

A Boise man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for producing and distributing child pornography, according to the United States Attorney’s office. Jason Lloyd Schaber, 40, of Boise, Idaho, was sentenced to 30 years in prison on count one and 10 years on count two, to run concurrently, followed by lifetime supervised release.

The charges stem from Schaber’s activities between 2010 and 2012, during which he produced 26 sexually explicit images and videos of female minors who were less than six years of age. He also distributed child pornography via email to at least 16 other individuals.

The investigation began in April 2012 after a person reported seeing a Craigslist advertisement offering a young child for sex. Investigators worked with Craigslist and Google to trace the ad back to Schaber, who was arrested on May 31, 2012. Schaber has been in custody since his arrest.

Schaber pleaded guilty in May 2013 to sexual exploitation of children by producing and distributing child pornography. U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge also ordered Schaber to forfeit the personal property used in the offenses.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
