A Tonawanda man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for producing child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Buffalo.
Jason M. Smith, 36, was convicted of production of child pornography and sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott S. Allen, Jr., who handled the case, stated that the investigation revealed Smith coerced at least six underage female victims into producing child pornography.
The investigation began on April 11, 2014, when the Lancaster Police Department executed a search warrant at Smith’s residence on Byron Avenue in Tonawanda.
During the search, officers seized external hard drives, which were later examined by the Western New York Regional Forensic Laboratory.
The lab found that Smith was producing child pornography at his residence, and a forensic review of his electronics devices recovered over 1000 images of child pornography.
The investigation involved Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Lancaster Police Department, and the Cheektowaga Police Department.
Sentencing is the culmination of an investigation into Smith’s crimes, which spanned several years and multiple victims.
Smith’s sentence reflects the severity of the crimes he committed, and we hope it brings closure to the victims and their families.
