Kansas Man Sentenced for Unlawful Firearm Possession

A 33-year-old Kansas City, Kansas man has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for unlawful possession of a firearm following a felony conviction.

Jason M. Trevillion was found guilty of the crime after police discovered a 9 mm pistol with his DNA on it during an investigation into shots fired in the area of 8th and Parallel Avenue. The police’s Violent Crime Task force heard the shots and attempted to stop a Dodge Caravan, but the vehicle fled, ramming into police cars before Trevillion and his co-defendants were apprehended.

Police found a .40 caliber pistol with a 50-round drum magazine, two .223 caliber pistols, a 9 mm pistol, and a .45 caliber pistol, as well as spent shell casings and live rounds in the van.

Trevillion’s 2015 conviction in Wyandotte County for aggravated assault made him a prohibited possessor of a firearm. His co-defendants, Ernest A. Jones and Taurez L. Adams, were also involved in the crime and are awaiting sentencing.

U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister commended the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, the FBI, and the prosecutors who worked on the case for their efforts in bringing Trevillion to justice.

The case is a reminder of the dangers of firearm possession by felons and the consequences of committing crimes with firearms. Trevillion’s sentence serves as a warning to those who engage in similar behavior.
