Jason Todd Topping, Receipt of Child Pornography, Alabama 2026

MOBILE, AL – A 53-year-old Mobile man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his role in a child pornography case.

Jason Todd Topping was sentenced to 168 months in prison by United States District Judge Kristi DuBose on March 20, 2026, for his guilty plea to receipt of child pornography, which he entered on December 19, 2025.

The investigation into Topping’s activities began when the Mobile Police Department received a walk-in complaint from a concerned citizen who believed Topping was engaging in sexual activity with a minor. An examination of Topping’s cell phone revealed videos depicting him engaging in sexual activity with a 16- and 17-year-old victim, who had sent the videos to Topping at his request.

At sentencing, Judge DuBose imposed a 168-month term of incarceration, as well as a 15-year term of supervised release upon Topping’s future release. Topping will be subject to sex offender treatment and mental health treatment while imprisoned and will be required to register as a sex offender with no contact with minors.

U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama made the announcement, which was the result of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Mobile Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kacey Chappelear prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

Topping was also ordered to pay $100 in special assessments as part of his sentence.
