ROME, GA – Jauan Rashun Porter, 29, of Rome, Georgia, is facing federal charges after allegedly threatening to assassinate President Donald Trump in a chilling online rant. The threats, made during a TikTok livestream on July 26, 2025, weren’t idle boasts, according to investigators who discovered a disturbing cache of potential weapons during a search of his apartment.
Porter, a convicted felon already on probation, allegedly posted to a livestream titled “Alligator Alcatraz” with the direct threat: “So there’s only one way to make America great and that is putting a bullet in between Trump’s eyes.” He didn’t stop there. Over the following minutes, Porter reportedly doubled down, stating, “I’m gonna kill Donald Trump. I’m gonna put a 7.62 bullet inside his forehead,” and further elaborated, “I’m gonna watch him bleed out and I’m gonna watch him die . . . I’m gonna do that.” When the livestream host questioned him about potential federal intervention, Porter allegedly responded, “I’m gonna kill them too.”
U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg minced no words, stating, “The allegations against Porter are serious and required a swift, decisive, and collaborative response. We do not tolerate threats against public officials or law enforcement officers, and Porter will now face the consequences of his actions.” The Secret Service echoed that sentiment. Deputy Special Agent in Charge Robert Donovan of the Atlanta Field Office affirmed, “The United States Secret Service takes threats against a protectee very seriously. We will investigate every threat, and if warranted, prosecute those who make threats to the fullest extent of the law.”
A joint operation between the Secret Service, Floyd County Police, and Georgia probation officers uncovered more than just online bluster. A search of Porter’s residence revealed two pipes, pistol ammunition, and a quantity of Tannerite – a highly volatile explosive. This discovery, coupled with Porter’s extensive criminal history – including prior convictions for terroristic threats, influencing a witness, mutiny in a penal institution, drug possession, battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and domestic violence – paints a disturbing picture of a man actively preparing to carry out his violent threats.
Porter was arrested and detained on August 7, 2025, and charged by criminal complaint with making threats against the President. U.S. Magistrate Judge Walter E. Johnson ordered he be held without bail pending a detention hearing scheduled for August 12, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. Authorities are reminding the public that Porter is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Assistant United States Attorney Brian Michael Pearce is handling the prosecution. The Secret Service led the investigation, with significant assistance from the Floyd County Police Department, Floyd County District Attorney’s Office, and the Georgia Department of Community Supervision. The case serves as a stark reminder of the increasing threat of politically motivated violence, and the agencies tasked with protecting key figures are taking no chances.
