Jax Gunrunner Scott Chance Pleads Guilty to Illicit Firearms Trade
Florida’s gritty underbelly was exposed once more as Scott Randall Chance, 22, of Jacksonville, pleaded guilty to dealing firearms without a license and knowingly possessing a machinegun.
A federal indictment charged Chance with these serious crimes, punishable by up to 15 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has yet to be set for the young gunrunner.
Chance’s illicit trading activities came to light in October 2022, when federal and local law enforcement agencies pinpointed him as a major supplier of illegal firearms and machinegun conversion devices (MCDs) in Duval and St. Johns counties.
Chance sold firearms and MCDs to an undercover law enforcement officer on four separate occasions between February and July 2023. The six firearms and three MCDs sold during this period are just a fraction of the illicit trade that Chance had been running.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office all contributed to the investigation that brought Chance to justice.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that unites law enforcement and the community to combat gun violence and make neighborhoods safer. Assistant United States Attorney Aakash Singh is handling the prosecution of this case.
Chance’s plea deal is a significant blow to the illicit firearms trade in Florida, and a testament to the tireless work of law enforcement agencies in combating gun crime.
The Department of Justice has made combating gun violence a priority, and this case is a prime example of the results achieved through their efforts.
