St. Louis Man Sentenced to 50 Years for Bank Robbery and Murder
A U.S. District Court judge has sentenced Jaylan Quinn, 23, of St. Louis, to a total of 50 years in federal prison for his role in a bank robbery that turned deadly in East St. Louis in August 2021.
Quinn, along with co-defendant Andrew R. Brinkley, 21, of St. Louis, Missouri, entered First Bank in East St. Louis on August 27, 2021, wearing masks and displaying a demand note that read, “I GOT A BOMB STRAPPED TO MY CHEST PUT ALL THE MONEY IN OR EVERYONE DIE.”
After receiving funds, the pair ran toward the door, where they were confronted by Ted Horn, a 56-year-old uniformed security guard who was working at the bank. Quinn drew a semi-automatic handgun and fatally shot Horn in the head before fleeing the scene in a white Lexus sedan.
Quinn was arrested, along with Brinkley, at Brinkley’s residence in St. Louis the following day. Agents recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, two marked bills that were taken during the robbery, and clothing that matched the description of the robbers.
Brinkley was previously sentenced to 20 years in prison and ordered to pay $7,280 in restitution. Quinn was also ordered to pay restitution of $7,280 and will serve five years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
U.S. Attorney Rachelle Aud Crowe praised the swift action of the FBI, Illinois State Police, and East St. Louis Police Department, saying, “Although this sentence won’t bring back Ted Horn, it’s a small sigh of relief that the man responsible for taking his life will spend the foreseeable future in federal prison for his crimes.”
Quinn’s sentence reflects the severity of his actions, said FBI Springfield Field Office Special Agent in Charge David Nanz. The loss experienced by the family of Ted Horn will last a lifetime, Nanz added.
