Jazmyne Deschinny, Child Abuse, New Mexico 2023

A chilling tale of neglect and abuse has unfolded in Shiprock, New Mexico, as 20-year-old Jazmyne Deschinny, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, is charged with two counts of abandonment and abuse of a child resulting in great bodily harm and three counts of abandonment and abuse of a child. Deschinny, a resident of Shiprock, will remain in custody pending a detention hearing set for Monday, October 23, 2023.

According to the indictment, on April 10, 2023, Deschinny’s alleged reckless behavior placed five minors under the age of 18 in a situation that may have endangered their life and health. Tragically, her actions resulted in great bodily harm to two of the minors.

Deschinny’s alleged conduct was carried out while driving under the influence of alcohol and intoxicating substances, a reckless and irresponsible act that has left a trail of devastation in its wake.

The Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with the assistance of the Navajo Police Department and Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Marshall is prosecuting the case.

An indictment is only an allegation, and Deschinny is presumed innocent until proven guilty. If convicted of the most serious allegation, Deschinny faces up to 18 years in prison.
