Jeff Crews Sentenced to 121 Months for Leading Racketeering Organization
A 25-year-old Washington, D.C. man was sentenced to 121 months in federal prison for his role as the leader of the Simple City Criminal Organization (SCCO), a racketeering enterprise that engaged in fraud and related activity, including vehicle theft and aggravated identity theft.
U.S. District Judge George J. Hazel handed down the sentence to Jeff Crews, also known as ‘Fro,’ following his guilty plea to conspiring to participate in a racketeering conspiracy and aggravated identity theft. As part of the sentence, Crews was also ordered to forfeit and pay restitution of $1,250,000.
The SCCO, based in the southeast quadrant of Washington, D.C. in a neighborhood known as ‘Simple City,’ was active from at least 2009 to July 2015. Crews and his conspirators, including Sylvia Price and Stefon Janey, planned and committed various crimes, including vehicle theft, the interstate transportation of stolen property, identity theft, and credit/debit card fraud.
The organization received money and income from these criminal activities. Crews and other SCCO members would steal vehicles in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties, Maryland, as well as in Washington, D.C. and transport them across state lines for resale. They would also provide stolen personal identification information and access devices to another group within the SCCO, which was led by Sylvia Price.
Crews’ co-conspirators conducted fraudulent transactions with the stolen identification documents and access devices, resulting in substantial financial losses. On one occasion, Crews, Janey, and another co-conspirator robbed a BP Gas Station in Beltsville, Maryland, stealing cash and causing damage to an ATM.
Crews’ sentence is part of a larger crackdown on the SCCO, with all 14 defendants charged in the case having pleaded guilty to their participation in the racketeering conspiracy. Sylvia Price, a/k/a ‘Deez Nuts,’ was sentenced to 75 months in prison, while Stefon Janey, a/k/a ‘Stef,’ was sentenced to 27 months. Three other defendants have received sentences ranging from 27 to 43 months, and nine remaining defendants are awaiting sentencing.
