Fort Dodge man sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for methamphetamine conspiracy.
A Fort Dodge man is headed to federal prison after a guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Jeffery Wear, 51, received a 60-month prison term following a guilty plea on May 6, 2015, in United States District Court in Sioux City.
The conspiracy, which lasted from 2012 to December 2014, involved the distribution of more than 150 grams of pure methamphetamine. On December 2, 2014, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by Wear, seizing approximately ½ pound of methamphetamine from the vehicle.
Wear was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett in Sioux City. In addition to the 60-month prison term, a special assessment of $100 was imposed. He must also serve a four-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. Wear is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Audubon County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Dodge Police Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations.
