Jeffrey Donaldson Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion, Orlando FL, 2023

A Florida man has pleaded guilty to evading his federal income taxes.

Jeffrey Donaldson, a former loan officer from Orlando, admitted to causing a tax loss of over $150,000 to the IRS between 2015 and 2018.

According to court documents, Donaldson made over $750,000 in wages during that period while working for two mortgage companies. He submitted false employee withholding certificates (Forms W-4) claiming he was exempt from federal income tax withholding.

Donaldson also willfully failed to file personal tax returns, despite earning enough income that required him to do so.

The case against Donaldson was announced by Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General Stuart M. Goldberg of the Justice Department’s Tax Division, U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg for the Middle District of Florida, and Special Agent in Charge Brian Payne of IRS-Criminal Investigation Tampa Field Office.

IRS-Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation into the case.

Trial Attorneys Isaiah Boyd and Brian Flanagan of the Justice Division’s Tax Division and Assistant U.S. Attorney Terry Livanos of the Middle District of Florida are prosecuting the case.

Donaldson will be sentenced at a later date and faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison. He also faces a period of supervised release, restitution, and monetary penalties.

A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
