Jeffrey Scott Hobgood, Threats, North Carolina 2023

Grimy Times investigation reveals disturbing allegations against Jeffrey Scott Hobgood, a resident of Troy, North Carolina. According to court documents, Hobgood sent threatening emails to a Jewish organization and a family member.

The first email, sent on October 11, 2023, stated, “I am going to take out every one of you.” A second email, sent on October 13, 2023, contained even more ominous language, saying, in part, “Guess what happens to traitors? . . . Public execution. . . . We are at war . . . . If you think you semite pieces of s[***] are going to win, then you are delusional.”

Hobgood’s actions have left many in the community shaken. “No one in America should be threatened based on their race, nationality, religion, gender, or other protected characteristics,” said United States Attorney Sandra J. Hairston. “Individuals who target other community members will be held accountable for their actions.”

The FBI has partnered with communities of faith across North Carolina to combat hate crimes. “No one should be threatened with violence or acts of hate because of who they are or how they worship,” said Robert M. DeWitt, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in North Carolina.

If convicted, Hobgood faces a maximum term of 5 years of imprisonment, a fine not to exceed $250,000, or both.
