Jeffrey Thurn, Ticket Re-Selling Scheme, Florida 2024

A Florida judge has slammed the book shut on a man who duped thousands of dollars from unsuspecting victims through a fake ticket re-selling business in Florida.

Jeffrey Thurn, 39, of Hartford, South Dakota, was sentenced to 46 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to running a fraudulent ticket re-selling scheme.

The scheme, operated through the fictitious business name Backstage Tickets, promised victims a guaranteed profit before Thurn could earn a fee, and refunds if an event was cancelled or changed.

However, in reality, Thurn fabricated receipts and never sold the tickets, using the $5,000,000 raised from investors for his personal benefit.

Thurn was sentenced yesterday by Senior U.S. District Judge Federico A. Moreno to 46 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.

He was also ordered to pay approximately $5.1 million in restitution.

The FBI’s Miami Field Office investigated the matter, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Roger Cruz.

According to court records, Thurn enticed victims to send him more than $5,000,000 for the purported ticket re-selling business.
