Bribing a Government Official Lands Chesapeake Woman in Hot Water
NORFOLK, Va. – In a shocking turn of events, Jennifer A. Strickland, 47, a resident of Chesapeake, Virginia, has pleaded guilty to bribing a government official.
According to court documents, Strickland, the President of SDC Contracting LLC, a company that contracts with the federal government to provide construction and renovation services, agreed to bribe a General Services Administration (GSA) Contracting Official in return for the award of a contract valued at approximately $1,369,501.00.
Between July 2018 and December 2019, Strickland made cash payments totaling $43,500 to the GSA contracting official. The payments were made in exchange for the award of a contract that would benefit Strickland’s company.
Strickland’s actions were discovered, and she was subsequently charged with bribing a government official. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew Heck and Randy Stoker.
Strickland is scheduled to be sentenced on August 12, 2024, and faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine the sentence after taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
This case was investigated by the FBI’s Norfolk Field Office, the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) Economic Crimes Field Office, and the General Services Administration (GSA) Office of Inspector General Mid-Atlantic Division.
