TRENTON, N.J. – Herman Christopher Jensen, 68, of Union Beach, New Jersey, will spend the next seven years and three months in federal prison after being sentenced today for knowingly receiving child pornography. Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig announced the 87-month sentence, the culmination of a disturbing case involving online manipulation and exploitation.
Jensen pleaded guilty to a one-count information charging him with the offense before U.S. District Judge Peter G. Sheridan. The investigation, led by the FBI, revealed a calculated scheme where Jensen created a fake Facebook profile – posing as a 17-year-old boy named “Kevin Bennett” – to groom and solicit sexually explicit material from an underage girl. From January 2018 to August 2018, “Kevin Bennett” relentlessly messaged the victim, fostering a false romantic connection.
Court documents detail how Jensen escalated his requests, demanding nude and semi-nude photographs via Facebook Messenger. The communication quickly turned more sinister, with Jensen receiving increasingly explicit videos of the minor victim engaged in sexually explicit acts. The deception didn’t end there. In August 2018, Jensen revealed his true identity – not the teenage boy he’d pretended to be, but an adult named Chris Jensen. Shockingly, the victim continued to communicate with him, now through the “Chris Jensen” Facebook account.
The situation took an even darker turn in December 2018 when the minor victim traveled to New Jersey and moved in with Jensen. Local authorities intervened on December 19, 2018, rescuing the victim from Jensen’s residence and ending the predatory relationship. The quick action of law enforcement prevented further exploitation.
Judge Sheridan didn’t just hand down a lengthy prison sentence; he also imposed a lifetime of supervised release, ensuring Jensen will be monitored for the rest of his days. Acting U.S. Attorney Honig praised the collaborative effort of the FBI’s Jersey Shore Gang and Criminal Organization Task Force, the Union Beach Police Department, and the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency for their work on the case. Special Agent in Charge George M. Crouch Jr. and Chief of Police Michael J. Woodrow were specifically acknowledged for their leadership.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Perry Farhat of the Government Frauds Unit, representing the government, secured the conviction and sentencing. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking online and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children.
